By now you should know what an adjective is: words like tall, big or intelligent. These words can have what grammarians name degrees of modification. The degrees of modification can be the positive the comparative  and the superlative forms. In fact only comparative and superlatives show these degrees in practice			A esta altura ya deberías saber lo que es un adjetivo: palabras como alto, grande o inteligente. Estas palabras pueden experimentar lo que los gramáticos llaman grados de modificación. Los grados de modificación son el positivo, el comparativo y el superlativo. (En realidad solo el comparativo o el superlativo manifiestan modificaciones)
We use the comparative degree for comparing two things and the superlative for comparing three or more things. Tom is old. He is 70. But Paul is 83. He is older than Tom...and Joe is 120. He is the oldest			Tomás es viejo. Tiene 70 años. Pero Pablo tiene 83. El es más viejo que Tomás....y José tiene 120 años. Es el más viejo.

Example:
The trumpet is noisy...A single drum is noisier...But a set of drums is the noisiest musical instrument			La trompeta es ruidosa...Un tambor solo es más ruidoso...Pero la batería es el instrumento musical más ruidoso.

Example:
A pocket camera is expensive... A reflex camera is more expensive than a pocket camera....But a digital camera is the most expensive of the three			Una cámara de bolsillo es cara...Una cámara reflex es más cara que la de bolsillo....Pero una cámara digital es la más cara de las tres

Example:      Tom                Sue			Lisa
Tom is a good student. He marks are always seven or eight. Sue is better than Tom: she gets always eight or nine....But Lisa is the best in the class...She always gets ten			Tomás es un buen estudiante. Sus notas son siempre siete u ocho. Susana es mejor que Tomás: obtiene siempre ocho o nueve...Pero Lisa es la mejor de la clase...Siempre consigue diez

Notice that the word than frequently accompanies the comparative and the word the precedes the superlative.

Nota que la palabra than muy a menudo acompaña al comparativo y la palabra the antecede al superlativo

To end this lesson note also that adjectives that end in a vowel and one consonant double that final consonant:				Para terminar con esta lección nota también que los adjetivos que teminan en una vocal y en una consonante duplican la consonante final
